What is Metacognition
Metacognition is the ability to think about why or how we are thinking…to understand and control one’s thought processes.
Romans 12:1 talks about being transformed by the renewing of our mind. The idea of renewing our minds requires us to understand our thoughts and feelings and to examine them fully to understand why we think the way we do. The way we think determines how we feel and how we feel determines our behavior.
The goal of Cognitive Therapy helps us to break out of our unproductive cycles of thinking and feeling by giving us tools to think in more accurate ways. After we recognize the destructive thoughts and belief systems, we can choose to remove them and replace them with more functional thinking.
